The Inpatient is a psychological horror game that takes place 60 years before the events of Until Dawn, and in the same universe. The game is being released exclusively for PSVR on PS4.

It’s the 1950s. You’re trapped in Blackwood Pines Sanatorium and your memory is gone. You must discover who you are, why you’re there and, in the process, uncover a conspiracy.

The Inpatient has been designed to realistically transport you into the game. PSVR puts you in a full body model, with legs, arms and hands visible on-screen. Innovative voice controls let you speak out loud and say what you want your character to say.

Nik Bowen, Game Director, Supermassive Games: With The Inpatient, we used psychological horror themes to infiltrate the player’s subconscious and draw them [sic] further into the story. Our team spent a lot of time working to create a sense of isolation and fear, making extensive use of immersive 3D binaural audio to complement the amazing visuals and further transport them [sic] into their unfamiliar new home.

You needn’t have played Until Dawn to enjoy The Inpatient, which is an entirely standalone title with a brand new story and cast of characters to meet.

The game will be released in the US January 23rd and the UK January 24th.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
