Okay, are you ready? (Deep breath…)
“Our Nation’s Miner is an open-world, role-playing, hybrid-gameplay, science-fiction, sandbox game, set inside of a vibrant, spacefaring dystopian future, overrun by a collaboration of various societies.”
That’s some genre, eh?
Here’s another way of putting it. Take the gameplay of Asteroids, the visual style and third-person perspective of Mass Effect and the environmental sub-generation of the Diablo series, mix together, pour into your computer and wait for everything to turn the color of nickel ore. Voilà! Our Nation’s Miner.
The game’s freeform style will enable you to choose the degree to which you become involved in the game’s story and lore. At no time will you be forced to follow preset storylines
You can help build governments or try to bring them down; become involved in politics or avoid them altogether; take to the stars in search of rare artifacts and technologies; or just kick back and relax for awhile. You can do whatever you want.
Your character and ship will be highly customizable. In keeping with the game’s hybrid gameplay styles, you’ll be able to leave your ship, walk around and interact with detailed environments such as communal areas, shops, homes (you can even own one), space stations and planet surfaces. The developer promises that every walk-around scene will be unique. There will be no duplicates.
Our Nation’s Miner won’t be combat-centered, nor will you command a crew of fighters. You’ll just be someone who’s trying to make the best of a bad situation, and your effect on the Universe will be under your control.
From indie developer Lord Bytesworth, the game is targeted for release on PC, Mac and Linux at a date TBD. A Greenlight campaign has been launched, and a Kickstarter campaign is in progress until March 13, 2015. If you like what you see, please consider backing Our Nation’s Miner.
