Myst III: Exile Walkthrough by Darcy Danielson
Amateria
Make
your way to the tusk that had the barrel-rolling puzzle; this is the tower with
the sort of circular emblem. Go back to that room down the hole and solve the
puzzle by matching up the bead positions with what you learned in Saavedro’s lair.
You get a linking book to the age Amateria. Open the book and touch the picture
to make the jump.
Go
forward six times. There are stairs in the rocks here leading down. Go down them,
four steps. Go forward five. There is a fork in the road. Go to the right, get
in the red metal elevator, hit the switch, and ride to the top. Turn around and
pick up the pages. Turn around, go forward, and look at the closeup of the orange
ball on the left. Pay attention to what it looks like. Get back in the elevator
and go back down and get out.
Turn left, then go forward seven steps, turn
right, and walk around the edge of the open area where the painting is–three
steps. Go forward five steps, turn right, go up some rocks two steps, turn left.
You are facing an entrance to a pagoda-style structure here. Take three steps
so that you are standing in the center of the pagoda. Turn around to face the
way you came in (looking across at another pagoda with a red circular mark on
it). Including the one that leads back out, there are six spokes radiating out
from where you stand. Starting with the spoke/path immediately to your right,
number the spokes 1 through 6, with 6 being the exit.
Take three steps down
the path #1. To your right will be a resonating clear circle, and to the left
of that (practically straight ahead for you) is a wooden path that branches off
the track structure. Take one step down that wooden path, turn to the right, and
click to get a close-up of the dials/knobs. There is a pointer that has six positions;
each position changes the sound of the resonator. One of the positions is missing
the blue piece; number the rest of the positions starting with the one immediately
above the missing one and proceeding clockwise, 1 through 5. For this path #1,
set the pointer to position 2, or straight up. Return to the pagoda.
Repeat
this procedure for each of the remaining paths, setting the dials as follows:
path 2 dial position 4, path 3 dial position 1, path 4 dial position 3, path 5
dial position 5. Once these are all set, leave and go back out the way you came
in, and stop at the doorway on the far side of the room with the painting. Go
forward once, turn left, go up the ladder in the rock, go down the path forward
three steps, turn left, then go forward twice. There is a device in front of you.
Turn to the left and pull the lever to go up, then pull the handle on the machine.
It shows an animation, then a honeycomb design comes up. Note this design; you
will need it later.
Turn
left, pull the lever, turn around, go forward twice, turn right, go forward three
steps, go down the ladder, turn left, and go forward eight steps back to the fork
in the path. This time, take the path that leads outside; go forward eight times
and look at the device on the right. Then go forward six times. Turn right, go
forward, click on the doors to open them, and take two steps into the building
before you. Turn to the left and take one more step.
On the right is a hanging
hemisphere, and on the left are pieces that fit onto the hemisphere to form a
ball. There are two each of three different types: wood, white granite, and metal.
Drag the two wood pieces onto the hemisphere, then add one of the metal ones.
Go
back to the device you saw on your way in, stand in front of it, pull the lever
to the left of the device, and you are raised up. You are now facing three knobs
on the device. Click on the top handle to move the giant gear to the left. Pull
the lever to the right of the knobs, watch the animation, and note down this second
honeycomb symbol for later.
Go
back down. Turn right, then go forward along the path until you reach the fork
again. Go back up the stone stairs five steps, go forward seven steps, then look
down to see a ladder. Go forward down the ladder, the forward along the path in
the water twelve steps, crossing a wooden bridge and following a stone path that’s
even with the main building. Turn right, go forward once, open the gate, go forward
once, pick up the pages to your right, then go forward again to another device.
Click on the lever to the left of the device to raise the machine up. There are
two circles in the device in front of you, cut into six sections each, and there
are three red sticks in the slot below them. Number each of the sections of the
circles 1 through 5, starting at the lower left. Drag the red sticks to the holes
in sections 3 and 4 on the left circle and section 2 on the right circle. Pull
the lever that’s under the circles toward the right and watch the animation, then
note down the third honeycomb design you are given.
Pull
the lever to go back down. Turn around and go back through the gate, two more
steps forward, turn left, then go back to the ladder. Go up the ladder, forward
one step, turn right, go forward once, turn left. You will be facing a honeycomb
pattern on a pedestal. Push the buttons so they match one of the three honeycomb
designs you have collected (they can be entered in any order). Exit the closeup;
you will turn automatically to see two metal panels come up and cover the hole
in the walkway, enabling you to continue walking on this path. Go forward and
turn to the left, and enter the next honeycomb symbol by pushing in the buttons.
Exit the closeup, watch the panels come up, cross and then turn left again and
enter the last honeycomb design.
Step forward, open the door, step forward,
wait for the stairs, go forward to the chair, click on the chair, click on the
chair again, then click one more time to sit in it. Face toward the small round
screen. Click on the button below it. Watch the cutscene. When it’s done, look
above the screen; there’s a pull with a red handle. Pull on it. You are lifted
out and above the building. A wooden box slides open in front of you; there are
nine spinning discs inside it. Up above you are four colored buttons, red, yellow,
green, and blue. You can push the blue, green, and yellow buttons to watch the
balls from the puzzles you’ve completed roll; each raises a block in between some
pilings, but the blocks don’t stay up. You must set the paths properly using the
nine discs. Click on them to get a closeup. Going from left to right across the
three rows, click on them the following number of times:
0
1 1
0 2 0
1 1 1
Exit
the screen, then look up and push the blue button. Sit back and watch the best
animation you’ve ever laid eyes on, then at the end collect the page containing
the symbol for this age.
Look down to find the linking book back to J’nanin.
Take two steps toward it and use it to return. Back in the building on J’nanin,
place your new page on the blue platform and watch the cutscene.
