The Latest Asylum Update – June 4, 2017
If you’ve been wondering where Asylum might have gone, it hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s still right here. Maybe you (or I) went somewhere instead. Or, it’s possible that no one went anywhere.
JA’s coverage of Asylum dates back to 2014 on our current website. I believe it goes back further than that, but earlier articles might not have survived migrations from previous versions of the site.
Be that as it may, in an article dated August 15, 2014, I wrote that the game had already been in production five years. This would mean that the project has been in existence at least nine years.
During that time, I believe Asylum‘s game engine has been changed a couple of times. Also, anticipated release dates have come and gone, as has Senscape’s project H.P. Lovecraft’s The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, for which a Kickstarter campaign was unsuccessful. I hope Senscape will be giving Charles Dexter Ward another shot after Asylum is completed. Meanwhile, I recommend reading the novel, which is excellent.
Anyway, it’s now January 6, 2018, and here we are (waves at everyone). Asylum is still in production. From what I’ve been able to discern, Senscape is currently shooting for…well, let’s hear it straight from Agustin Cordes: We’re working as fast as we can, we swear! We expect to reach beta in a few more months with a tentative release date around Q3 2018. Hoping to confirm this soon!
Well, however long we may have to wait shouldn’t be as long as we already have waited. I do wish Senscape all the best in getting Asylum into our trembling little hands. And I hope it takes us on a journey into “so terrified I think my head might explode” territory.
Oh, BTW…the other day I came across a game called Welcome to Hanwell. What? As it turns out, this game has nothing to do with Asylum other than the use of the name Hanwell.
