In The Council, you’ll make difficult decisions that really matter. You’ll develop an assortment of skills that directly impact the way the narrative unfolds. You’ll suffer long-lasting consequences. There will be no turning back.

The game, which spans five episodes, offers a tale of intrigue and manipulation in the style of a classic murder mystery. It’s populated with intriguing characters hiding dark secrets. You’ll be uncovering ominous truths without not knowing who to trust.

The first episode — The Mad Ones — takes place in 1793. Step into the shoes of Louis de Richet, who’s invited by the enigmatic Lord Mortimer to join a secret society. On a private island, you’ll meet historical characters such as Napoleon and George Washington. Hidden agendas will abound.

The Council‘s core gameplay is derived from maneuvering through character encounters using the unique Social Influence system. During confrontations, skills and resources can be manipulated to reach desired outcomes.

You can choose to solve issues using various approaches such as diplomacy or occultism, or by playing detective. Fifteen diverse skills will be available to use as you see fit. The consequences of failing an encounter are permanent and may result in persistent physical disfigurements, or mental traits that will help or hinder the rest of your adventure.

The Council Episode 1: The Mad Ones will be released on Windows, PS4 and Xbox One in February 2018, exact date TBD.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
