ZED: A Kickstarer-Funded Journey into Beautiful and Unpredictable Dreamworlds
Explore the imagination of a dying man, and interact with dreamscapes and a kaleidescope of memories in this surreal, Myst-like adventure
ZED is a first-person, Myst-like adventure in which a dying man — referred to as the Dreamer — seeks to piece together his memories, which he wants to pass down to his granddaughter. He needs your help to do this, as his memories are incomplete, fragmented and rapidly fading.
You will explore the Dreamer’s mind and enter his dreams, represented by eccentric coastlines, mechanized landscapes and secretive forests — all of which can shift in an instant. As you solve puzzles, you’ll learn his story, uncover the truth about his past and discover his final masterpiece. You’ll come to understand the meaning of ZED, the realms of which flicker between reality and fiction.
The driving force behind ZED is artist Chuck Carter, Founder and Creative Director of developer Eagre Games. In the past, he’s helped develop Myst, the Command and Conquer and Red Alert franchises, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Nox, Pacman World Rally, Kyrandia and many other games. He’s joined by a dedicated team of artists, programmers, musicians, writers, and industry professionals.
Chuck Carter: In order to optimize our game and our developmental process we have chosen to use Unreal Engine 4. This powerful development tool allows us to quickly iterate and create the game worlds of ZED. This enables us to bring new team members on seamlessly and integrate new game elements with little hassle while keeping our design and development costs at a minimum. This will allow us to make ZED an affordable game for fans while not compromising visual or design integrity.
The plan is to release ZED this month (March) for Windows, Mac and Linux. It will support both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
