The DOS-based game Descent is the first computer game I ever played. It came with my first multimedia computer. I was immediately hooked.

When I watched the first trailer for Dystoria, I immediately thought of Descent.

We don’t usually cover shooters on JA, but I’m making an exception here. Dystoria combines a unique style of 6-axis gameplay with action-packed space battles, stunning visuals and mind-bending level design all backed by an original ’80s style synthwave soundtrack.

As part of an experiment, you are trapped in a zero-g space labyrinth where you’ll pilot a ship that hovers along any surface in any direction. As you navigate you may find that what appears to be a simple maneuver can be quite complex as orientation changes with every turn.

Your goal is to visit each sector, collect orbs, destroy enemies and reach the exit without being pulverized.

Daryl Wilson, Tri-Coastal Games: Dystoria has been inspired by ’80s movies and games along with titles like Tron, Descent, Star Wars, Super Mario Galaxy, and we are intent on offering an exhilarating experience, both visually and audibly. Already we are pleased to hear the media say in positive terms they can’t think of any game out there – like this!

The game will be released February 21, 2017 for Windows on Steam.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
