According to developer StoryTale Studios, Kickstarter-funded Pamali: Indonesian Folklore is more than just a horror game. The game incorporates authentic Indonesian day-to-day activities, cultural phenomena, myths and taboos which shape the horror itself. It also gives players an opportunity to define their own experiences based on the choices they make during gameplay.

The game is comprised of four horror stories based on Indonesian folklore: The White Lady, The Tied Corpse, The Little Devil and The Hungry Witch. The White Lady will be released first, with the other three stories following as separate DLC throuhout 2019.

In The White Lady you’ll play Jaka, who returns to his Indonesian hometown to sell an old family residence which sits abandoned. But as you explore, you’ll discover that the family home isn’t abandoned at all. For instance, you’ll encounter such authentic Indonesian ghosts as Kuntilanak, Pocong, Tuyul and Leak, and you’ll experience horror that’s drawn from Indonesian folklore.

StoryTale Studios’ Mira Wardhaningsih: We noticed that different people perceive horror in different ways. For example, zombies are very frightening for some people, but for others, it’s just a walking body. Pamali was created to provide a glimpse into how horror is perceived in Indonesia. We want to introduce Indonesian horror, which is shaped by the culture of the people themselves, from their traditional taboos and folklore. As we believe traditional Indonesian horror shouldn’t be Westernized, Pamali strives to provide players with the authentic Indonesian horror experience.

Pamali: Indonesian Folklore Horror – The White Lady will be released December 28th for Windows on Steam . More info is available on the game’s website.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
