The NES favorite and granddaddy of first-person adventures is back. Zojoi, the creators of Shadowgate, are proud to bring you this re-imagining of the game!

This new game is not a port. The franchise is being relaunched, adding tons of new puzzles and twists to the game. Stunning new rooms as well as familiar locations have been added; many have been redesigned to provide a new experience while retaining the essence and fun of the original.

Shadowgate will feature three difficulty levels, new and updated puzzles, an inventory and map system, a cinematic score, dramatic cutscenes, and beautifully illustrated locations. It will offer a brand new gameplay experience.

A Bonus Retro mode will enable players to experience the game like it’s 1989. You may choose Hiroyuki Masuno’s original NES score, switch to 8-bit graphics, and more.

The last thing that you remember is standing before the wizard Lakmir as he gestured wildly and chanted in an archaic tongue. Now you find yourself staring at an entryway which lies at the edge of a forest.

So begins the legend. Get ready to step inside the dark halls of Castle Shadowgate as “The Seed of Prophecy,” the only one who can hope to defeat the traitorous Warlock Lord who dwells within.

Kickstarted by thousands of backers, Shadowgate will ship August 21, 2014 for PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices.

Whether you are a longtime fan or a new adventurer, grab a torch and travel into the labyrinths known as Shadowgate!

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
