The real Oak Island is located on the south shore of Nova Scotia. Its 140-acres came to be known as The Money Pit, purported to be the site of deeply buried treasure beginning in 1795, when some artifacts were discovered in what appeared to be a man-made depression. Deeper digging revealed pick-marks preserved in clay, a layer of flagstones and packed logs at 10, 20 and 30-foot intervals.
The excavators became convinced that pirate treasure had been buried there, but it was impossible to dig deeply enough due to dead-ends, cave-ins, flooding and other misfortunes.
Long story short: the initial search was abandoned but more treasure-hunters arrived and, for the next 200 years, futile attempts were made to find the elusive treasure, allegedly costing six lives. According to legend, a seventh must die before the mystery of Oak Island will reveal itself.
The Mystery of Oak Island takes place in the present but draws heavily from the island’s history, which you will need to know in order to unlock secrets for which the island demands sacrifice.
Purely by chance, you will become involved in the island’s mystery. As you delve deeper, you’ll find yourself in grave danger as you contend with others who are looking for the island’s treasure. Will you succeed? Will you become a victim of the legend?
Some treasures are best left buried.
The Mystery of Oak Island, a classic point-and-click adventure, will feature at least three playable characters, full 1920×1080 HD resolution, hundreds of challenging puzzles, an orchestral soundtrack, and PC, Mac, iOS and Android support. The game will apparently be episodic, but it’s unclear how many episodes there will be at this point.
The Mystery of Oak Island has already been Greenlit, and the Kickstarter campaign (base goal €15,000, 40% of which has currently been achieved) will run until June 5th. Indie developer Visionaire Studio would love to have your backing.
