Kholat – Interview with Lukasz Kubiak of IMGN.PRO – January 2, 2015

It has never been definitively determined what caused the mysterious deaths of nine skilled alpinists in the event known as The Dyatlov Pass Incident.

About all that’s known for sure is that the event occurred in 1959 the northern Ural Mountains on the eastern side of Kholat Syakhl; that something killed nine experienced ski-hikers, and that their bodies were left with bizarre injuries that could not be explained.

Theories abound, of course. Some are reasonable, as far as they go. Others are of the crackpot variety. No theory, however, fully explains all aspects of what befell the Russian hikers. The Dyatlov Pass Incident remains a mystery.

In the first-person adventure-horror game Kholat, you’ll find yourself in the forbidding terrain of the Urals in search of the tragedy’s true course. You may find answers. You may be left with more questions. It’s possible you may not survive.

Kholat is being developed with Unreal Engine 4 and will feature high-quality graphics. The game will be non-linear and focus on story (including plenty of background information) and exploration of its inhospitable world.

Also, considering that the game will have a fear-management system, it appears that the good folks at IMGN.PRO will be trying to scare the hell out of us. I certainly hope so…

Oh, and they’ve scored Sean Bean to do some of the voice acting. That’s not scary. It’s great!

Kholat will be released on April 24, 2015 for Windows and Mac.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
