desolate is a single adventure game told in seven acts: Desolation, The Desolate, Deception, Corruption, Consumption, Depression, and Realisation. It’s based on developer Elliot Collis’ experiences growing up.
As the game begins, shadowy figures have invaded your village and you must sacrifice your friends and family to them in order to escape. After realising what you’ve done wrong, you need to fix the mistakes you’ve made.
Not all mistakes can be fixed by apologising. Sometimes change is needed, but reluctantly sought. Sooner or later you will have to face your inner shadows and your inner self to change for the better.
Traverse a lovely hand-painted world accompanied by a beautiful score by New Zealand musician Ben Tolich using the three core interactions of sound, gesture and touch to communicate with its inhabitants.
Developer Elliot Collis is originally from New Zealand, the exquisite landscape of which is included in desolate, using references from the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
Elliot currently lives in Tokyo, which has some very small buildings and spaces, and the most amazing culture. The buildings featured in desolate are all found around Tokyo. Other parts of the game feature incredibly beautiful, naturally-formed caves from both Nippara and Arizona.
desolate is being developed for Windows, Mac and Linux. A Kickstarter campaign is in progress until September 30, 2014. Your support would be appreciated!
