Just four days ago, developer Ice Pick Lodge launched a Kickstarter for a re-imagining of Pathologic, originally released in 2005. At present, over 70% of its $250,000 goal — or $176,208 — has been raised.
When the original Pathologic first launched, it attracted a great deal of critical acclaim. It still retains a strong community of fans, many of whom have helped the Kickstarter fund grow so quickly by backing it.
If the Kickstarter campaign succeeds, Ice-Pick Lodge plans to completely re-work the game by giving it superior graphics, an extended and reworked script, advanced AI and new game mechanics. Platforms will include PC, MAC, Linux, PS4, and Xbox One.
The Ice Pick Lodge team, having released three games subsequent to 2005’s Pathologic and seen the survival game genre become more mainstream, feels it can build on all the compelling features of the original. The team also believes, in hindsight, that there are many aspects of the original that can be enhanced and improved. And so far, over 4,000 backers want to see this re-imagining of Pathologic come to life.
Creative Lead Nikolay Dybowsky: “We’re very happy with how quickly our Kickstarter campaign has taken off. We were making survival games before it was mainstream. Pathologic was very novel back in 2005. We’re glad that nowadays gaming has embraced survival—a genre that allows us to put the player in a really uncomfortable situation, not holding their hands on a walk through a theme park. We want to remain at the forefront of the evolution of this genre by fully exploring the potential of survival games. We hope that we will reach our goal and can do that. We would also like to thank all our backers so far.”
The Kickstarter campaign is in progress until October 7, 2014.
