Savage: The Shard of Gosen takes place in the brutal world of Lor, a fantasy setting of the developer’s own creation. It’s inspired by the Conan stories by Robert E. Howard, Zelda II (yes, the black sheep of the Zelda family), Super Mario Brothers 2 (US), the Gargoyle’s Quest series and the Castlevania series, with a healthy (?) dose of general barbarian fetishism thrown in.

The game will take place in a varied, open world, and will present an interesting little tale filled with machismo, magic and muscles, day/night cycle, overworld hunting/tracking, lots of action/platforming, fun melee system and some mild RPG elements (item use, leveling up, gear, crafting etc.).

A public alpha demo has been released and is available for download on IndieDB. The game is also looking to be Greenlit.

Matt Fitzgerald (Planet Tobor) is the game’s sole developer. He’s handling the design, code, art, music, and sound effects, and has been working on Savage for four years. He plans to release the game on PC sometime in 2014, but he needs your support.

A Kickstarter campaign has been launched and will continue until February 23, 2014. How about lending a hand?

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
