In The Banner Saga, hand-painted landscapes portray a world eerily suspended in perpetual twilight. Cities and towns begin to crumble into chaos. Heroes abandon their hearths and homes to traverse the snowy countryside, gaining allies along the way to help battle a strange, new threat.

In the game, which was successfully funded through a Kickstarter campaign last year, choice directly affects a player’s personal journey across a stunning yet harsh landscape and, ultimately, the survival of an entire civilization.

Turn-based strategy brings tactical challenge in hand-animated battle sequences. With visuals evocative of the golden age of animation. The Banner Saga brings skillfully crafted art, story and strategy to gamers waiting to re-experience classic adventures and tactics.

“Our core goal as a company is to help make independent game studios successful and preserve their independence,” said General Manager Steve Escalante. “The Stoic team took huge risks to create this exquisite game and they were rewarded with a tremendous fan base with their successful Kickstarter. We are proud to be a part of the launch of The Banner Saga.”

The game will release on January 14, 2014 for PC and Mac.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
