This delightful children’s
adventure game from the Czech Republic has already been released
in parts of Europe and with any luck will
soon find a publisher in North America. We have had the opportunity
to play a demo of this game and were immediately captivated by its
simplicity and can honestly say that this is one of those rare games
that will appeal to adults and children alike.
Bohemia Interactive Studio – the team behind this classic adventure
game – were inspired by over one thousand Russian fairy tales, fables
and satiric bedtime stories in their attempt to create a modern day
fairy tale for the computer generation.
The main character of
the story is Nastya, half-sister to Marfusha. While Marfusha lays
around the house giving orders, Nastya is made
to clean the barnyard and do all of the chores on her own. Ivan is
Nastya’s ‘Prince Charming,’ the man of her dreams
who can sweep her away from her horrible life.
The game is populated with vividly animated mysterious creatures,
animals, forest beasts and deceitful bandits. Every good fairy tale
must have a memorable villain and this game has, just for starters,
the evil hag Baba Yaga and Father Frost.
Father Frost,
Ivan and Nastya is a story about love, spite, greed, modesty, humility and
seeking. The story is divided into four parts – each
part representing one of the four seasons. Many locations can be
visited numerous times and the landscape will have changed as it
will be a different season of the year. There are also many inventory
based puzzles to be solved as you embark on your journey.
Twenty-eight tracks of original music composed specifically for
the game and over four hours of recorded dialogue immediately put
Father Frost at a level usually reserved for big-budget projects.
We’ll have a full
review soon and keep you updated as to a possible North American
release date. In the meantime, you can download
a trailer for Father Frost, Ivan and Nastya here.
