Preview Cherokee Developer: Pharos Preview by Randy Sluganski |
|
For
the past few years, the ambitious Kathy Salisbury has toiled in relative
obscurity to develop a series of historically based adventure games
that feature a young girl named Ally. Her fortunes may be about to
change though, with the release of her newest adventure – Cherokee
Trails.
An
independent developer who is well-known and respected in the burgeoning
shareware community, Kathy was earlier this year voted Volunteer of
the Month by the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP), the
world’s largest trade organization for independent software
developers and vendors.
Her previous games include
Ally’s
Adventure Through the Glass, Ally
2: Ben Franklin Adventure, SerpentHead
and Cendric’s
Quest. But Cherokee Trails is her largest project
to date as well over a year was spent creating hundreds of animations.
Cherokee
Trails has you lead young Ally and her friends on a trek that
parallels the journey of the Cherokee tribes across 19th century America.
You will have to contend with natural obstacles, wild animals and
eventually the ghosts of the past as you complete your journey through
history.
In order to ensure that
Cherokee Trails was as accurate as possible, Kathy employed the assistance
of an authentic Cherokee storyteller and linguist and the music was
written by a well-known Cherokee musician. 3D graphics and animation
then combine to bring this story to life. It is amazing to me that
one person could put so much of herself and her life into developing
just one game!
You
can download a 6MB
demo of Cherokee Trials and then, if you find yourself
enchanted the full game can be purchased
for only $24.95 on a special cd that also contains Kathy’s previous
four adventure games and some bonus screensavers.
