It’s
understandable if you mistake the screenshots from The
Enigma of the Abbey – from Spanish developer Ingnius
– for Alachofa
Soft’s recently released Murder
in the Abbey. I did the same and wrote to the development
team who responded that, “No, Murder in the Abbey is another
game, a point & click game. The Enigma of the Abbey is a fully
3D Game with absolute freedom.”
Well, with all due respect
to the developers, while they are two different games, they both seem
to be based on the same subject matter – Umberto Eco’s Name of
the Rose – so the initial confusion is understandable.
Set
in 1328, Franciscan monk and philosopher William Occam, along with
his novice, travels to an unknown abbey where a venerable elder has
just been murdered. William undertakes an investigation and his interrogation
soon reveals dark secrets that spiral far beyond the abbey walls.
The
abbey is set in a living 3D world with dynamic lighting and shadows
in real-time as sunrise and sunset will play important roles as time
factors into the investigation. The player will also be able to control
multiple characters as the puzzles become more complicated.
The
freedom of movement will allow the player to explore various locations
inside the abbey such as the winery, the cemetery, the library, the
scriptorium and the dungeons and also locations outside the abbey
such as the forest, the ruins and the surrounding countryside.
We hope to have a hands-on
preview of The Enigma of the Abbey soon, so while
you’re waiting for the abbey bells to toll, visit the game’s
official website
to download wallpapers and view new trailers.
