The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery – Prologue

Prologue

    Gabriel now finds himself stuck in an old castle, (Schloss Ritter) where he and Gerdde are repairing it. He’s using his funds he stole, (play Gabriel Knight I: Sins of the fathers for more info) to live in Rittersburg. He has been trying to write a new novel but has a series case of writers block, he hasn’t even finished the first page within a year.

    Everthing has been calm ever since the incident in New Orleans, intil a mob of townsfolk show up at the door. They ask Gabriel to investigate a murder near munich. Gabriel agrees and heads off to his new adventure.


CHAPTER ONE: Baby Steps

    Hubur Farm, Visit One

    You wake up at the Hubur Farm. First click on your bag by the china Cabinet. “China, How Homy”

    You’ll kneel down and unzip the bag, click again inside the bag to recieve a dagger, your wallet, and 2 letters. (2/679)

    Head to the other part of the room with the mirror in it. Look at the Newspaper on the right side of the table. (3/679)

    Reading the newspaper will end in two new areas on the road map, the Zoo and the Police station. (5/679)

    Exit the Newspaper and click the little note hanging to the left of the door. (6/679)

    Go ahead and read it. Exit the screen and take the car keys that are hanging right under the mirror. (7/679)

    Open up your Inventory and read the ritter family lawyer letter. (9/679)

    Then read the other letter from Grace. (10/679)

    Exit this room and go outside. You should see a car. Walk to the right of the screen and you’ll see a water trough.

    Go to it and examine the muddy area in front of it. You’ll Squat and peer at a huge paw print. Click on the paw print. (11/679)

    After the short score of tense music, exit the screen. Now click on the Wooded area right above the trough to get closer to the forest.

    About fout feet away (game length) in front of Gabriel will be an area that is clickable, click on it. (12/679) What a lovely bundle of reddish hair. Pick it up and stuff it in your pocket. (14/679)

    Afterwards you will be staring at dirt, continue staring as long as you wish the exit the screen and head back to the car, DON’T ENTER THE CAR YET!!

    There’s an entrance to the left of the car you should investigate though. Go ahead. Click on the entrance. You’ll get a little closer, so click once more to actually enter.

    On top of a shelf, there will be a bag of Zement. Scnell. Quick. Quick Drying Zement. Click on it to end up with a bucket of the stuff. (15/679)

    Leave. Head back over to the trough and the muddy spot with the paw print. You’ll squat down and look at it again, but this time when you click on it, you’ll put the Scnell Zement on it instead. For doing this you get a whopping 5 points. (20/679)

    You also end up back in the shack. Go straight back to the muddy print and remove the dried Zement. Alright!! You’ve got a paw looking cement block in your inventory. ONE POINT! (21/679)

    Go to the car and whip out those keys. Use them to enter the road map where you will choose all your distinations. Choose The one in the upper-right, Prinzregentenplatz, or police station.

    Police Station, Visit One (Last Visit in Chapter)

    Everything in here is auto-matic and you’ll end up back on the road without clicking a thing. (22/679)

    Zoo, Visit One

    Click on Thalkirchen (Zoo)

    Look at the board to the right, then click on it again to recieve one point (23/679)

    Exit the sign.

    Click the inside the fenced area to move Gabriel closer. Now Click on one of the wolves to watch an idiot. (24/679)

    Believe it or not, you get to do that agian. Click on the wolf once more. “It’s like that, is it?”

    Move away from the fence and wait a few seconds, Thomas the animal feeder will show up. Click on him. Go through the following dialogs.

    After that, a new area of the Zoo will open up. The adminastration area to the left. Go there to enter Klingmann’s Office.

    Interesting Fact: The first name of Klingmann’s Actor is Wolf.

    After that little introduction, click around the room to hear some messages then click on the Doktor. Then talk about:

    - Himself

      - How long have the wolves been missing? (32/679)

      - Do you think the Zoo wolves are responsible for the mutilation

        killings?

      - Why would the wolves kill humans?

        - How does a wolf choos it’s victim?

    Leave his office and the Zoo altogether. Return to the Hubur Farm.

    Hubur Farm, Visit Two

    Now’s a good chance to use that splicing capability of your tape recorder. Click the little tape icon 2 places uner the inventory icon. (at the bottom)

    You’ll be brought to a screen with 16 tapes on it. The first is Thomas’s dialogs, the second is Klingmanns (Obviously). Click on Klingmann’s tape, the click on Load A. Now select any other tape besides Thomas’s. Then Click Load B. Now Click Splice.

    Now to make a sentence out of Klingmann’s words. The sentence will read: “Thomas?” “Herr Doktor Klingmann here.” “Show our wolves to” “Mr. Knight” (42/679)

    Return to the Zoo.

    Zoo, Visit Two (LAST VISIT FOREVER)

    Head Straight to Klingmann’s office. This time around, he’s gone. You may search his desk, but you won’t find anything.

    Then Look at his coat (Klingmann’s) to find a receipt. (44/679)

    Go into your inventory and use the ‘Klingmann Splice Tape’ on the walkie-talkie sitting on Klingmann’s desk. (49/679)

    In pops Klingmann. You’ll leave his office and return to the kennels. Thomas will then show you to one of the wolves. (all Auto-matic)

    When the screen comes up where you view a wolfs head, click on it’s tag. (50/679)

    Then click on it’s fur. You will then proceed to pet the creature while Thomas freaks out. At the end of the sequence, you will be standing outside the fence with a new bundle of hair, hey your getting a collection going. (54/679)

    Leave the Zoo and head back to the Hubur Farm.

    Hubur Farm, Visit Three (Last visit in Chapter)

    After you park, enter the house and stay in the area with the mirror. Whip out that receipt or invoce and look at it. Flip it over and you’ll notice writing on the back… odd it kinda looks backwards. click on it. (56/679)

    Use the invoce on the mirror and you’ll be able to read the writing. (61/679)

    Now would be a good time to write to Gracie, click on the papers to the left of the Newspaper. Gabe will sit down and write. (62/679)

    Leave the house and hop back in the car. Head to Marienplatz.

    Marienplatz, Visit One

    Go left around the corner. You’ll see a meat stand with an old lady. Go speak with her, nothing happens… yet. Leave.

    Go into the darker area to the left. About 4/5th’s of the way up on the left black board, there is a clickable spot, click it. You will enter the building, if you read the letters like I told you at the beginning, you’d know this was the family firm. (63/679)

    You will now speak to the family lawyer about many things, and here they are.

    Leave Marienplatz. I assume you know the way, past the meat shop, around the corner and down to the subway.

    Go to Universitat

    Biology Lab (LAST VISIT FOREVER)

    Since you need to show him what you got. Pull out the Paw Casting, And both hair samples in any order and show them to him. (74/679)

    Now leave. He will stop you and give you a report on his findings. (75/679)

    Go to Marienplatz again.

    Marienplatz, Visit Two (End of Chapter)

    When you return, walk to the right. It takes a while to walk it, so hit the fast forward that is located at the upper-right corner.

    You end up in a area with musicians. Round the corner and you will look at the street sign.

    You need to mail that letter you have for Gracie. The post office is located across the street from here. Bring out the letter and click it on the doorway, the one were he says, “What should I mail?” (76/769)

    Continue up the street. Across from this street lies that hunting lodge,

Die Koniglich-Bayrische Hofjagdloge. Enter it to be confronted by Xavier. (77/679)

    You can say a couple things to him:

    - Do you know Herr Doktor Klingmann? (Nothing Happens)

    - Are you in the market for a taxidermist? (Nothing Happens)

    - I’m an avid hunter. (New Dialog choice below) (78/769)

      - I am a member of a prominet German family.

    Sooner or later your going to leave the hunting club, whether you like it or not. Proof, he says. We don’t need no stinkin’ proof. All well, go back to your lawyer on the other side of town.

    Ask him about the:

    Go back to the hunting club. Speak with Xavier once more:

    - I tell you, I’m a Ritter of Rittersburg!

    After he still tells you no, hand over the Ritter family papers and that’s that! Chapter complete. (90/679)


    CHAPTER TWO: Rittersburg

    This whole Chapter is in Rittersburg. So I’ll split this one area into different parts now and make it a whole area in Chapter Four.

    Schloss Ritter, Visit One

    After the cut-scene, you will control Grace. Start off by going down past the bed. Click on the huge door which leads to the library. Darn, it’s locked.

    Leave this room to go downstairs. Gerdde will be sitting at a desk. Speak to her about the following:

    - Gabriel

      - Gabriel 2 (92/679)

    - Herself

      - Herself 2

    - Gabriel’s Research (94/679)

      - Gabriel’s Research 2

        - Gabriel’s Research 3 (persistant, ain’t she?)

    - Locked Door

    Leave the Castle. A car will be out here. Click on it, then re-enter the Castle. Question Gerdde about:

    - Car Key’s

    Oh. Too bad. Leave the castle again and head to town. (The passage in the bottom left). Venture Right, you’ll pass a blue door and the post office. Click on the most right door here. It says ‘Goldener Lowe’ over it.

    Rittersburg, Visit One

    Click on the man at the counter. You can then talk about:

    - Himself

      - Himself 2

        - Wolfgang

          - Wolfgang 2

    - Rittersburg

    - Gabriel’s Case

      - Where can I find Gabriel?

      - Do you know how long Gabriel will be gone?

    Look at the painting on the wall to the right. This guy is Ludwig, and believe me, your going to get to know much more about him.

    Leave the Gusthof and go to the most left buildong this time, the church. Enter it and speak to the priest, he doesn’t have much to say.

    Go down the Aisle and enter the room with tombs. Click on the middle casket twice, the on the silver heart. Leave the church.

    Go back to those blue doors you passed earlier to speak with the mayor. You’ll get a close up. Click on the left door.

    The mayor will come out and you will discuss (99/679):

    After this, return to the Castle.

    Schloss Ritter, Visit Two

    Go back into Gracie’s room. (The room she woke up in) Examine the Closet/wardrobe. Then search the workers toolbox sitting by the fireplace.

    Once your looking into the box, click on the screwdriver. Grace will take it (Steal is more like it) and put it away somewhere on her. (101/679)

    During the video, you should of noticed a stone missing in the fireplace. Well, move the mouse to the upper part of the screen til’ it say’s “up”. You should now be looking at the missing stone. Click on it.

    Then use the screwdriver on the hole. ‘Clunk’. (104/679)

    Look at the closet again and open it up. What the… A secret passage. Enter the passage. (109/679)

    Go right, this room is Gerdde’s room. Look at the picture on the desk. (111/679)

    Leave the picture screen and open the closet. Search the clothes. Then take the key. (113/679)

    Open the closet again and enter the secret passage, go down the other path in the secret passage. You’ll end up outside and by some roses. Search around, click on the roses, look at the castle then return to Gracie’s room.

    Go to that locked door and use the key on it. (118/679)

    Click on the right book shelf first. You’ll pull out a journal on Victor Ritter, if you want to know why it’s becuase it’s dated in the same time period as the trial occured in. (it’s in your notebook) (119/679)

    Now click the middle bookshelf to find a Lore and Law book along with a letter to who else, Ludwig. This is when Gerdde shows up, “How did you unlock the door?” (120/679)

    Now read the Lore and Law book (122/679), the Journal (124/679) and the letter. (126/679)

    Exit to the right, you’ll sit down and look at the typewritter. Open up your inventory and use the Professor Barclay’s card on the phone. (131/679)

    Leave the library and castle and return to Rittersburg.

    Rittersburg, Visit Two

    Go to the blue doors again and speak to the mayor:

    - Trial Records (133/679)

      - Why did they bring the werewolf to rittersburg?

      - What happended to the alleged werewolf?

      - Where was the werewolf kept while it was here? (135/679)

      - Did the werewolf ever change back? (137/679)

      - Why did they want to find out who the man was? (139/679)

    You will then be led to the rothouse basment (A.K.A. the dungeon). Take a look at the bed, church (through the window) (141/679), and the claw marks on the window. Exit the dungeon.

    Speak to the mayor again:

    Go back to the church and enter it. Use the note you got on the priest to recieve the documents. (145/679)

    Go back to the mayor and talk about:

    Go into the pub/Gasthof and take to Herr Hubur:

    - Ludwig II

    Head back to the castle and into the library.

    Schloss Ritter, (Last visit in chapter)

    Search the right bookshelf again to find Christian Ritter’s Journal. (153/679)

    Read it (it’s only two pages) (155/679)

    Go back to the typewriter and phone, click on the typewriter to well, write a letter. (160/679)

    Go to where Gerdde’s sitting. Use the ‘Package’ on her. (162/679)

    Leave the castle and go back to town.

    Rittersburg, (End of Chapter II)

    Go to the door to the left of the Gasthof, the post office, and ring the door bell. Hand over the letter/package to the lady. (163/679)

    Now use your wallet on her. Chapter Complete. (167/679)


    CHAPTER THREE: Getting Noticed

    Hubur Farm, Visit One

    You wake up back on the Hubur farm ready for more action.

    Pick the new paper on the table. Read it. (168/679)

    Open the inventory and read Von Glower’s card, his house now appears on the Road map. (169/679)

    Leave the farm and head to Marienplatz.

    Marienplatz, Visit One

    Go to your lawyer’s office. Upon entering, he gives you grace’s letter. (170/679) (The letter actually traveled back in time to do this)

    Open and read it’s contents. (171/679)

    Now speak with your lawyer about:

    - Ludwig II

      - Ludwig II 2 (173/679)

    - The Black wolf.

    Your done with him for now, so leave.

    Go to the strip market, the doors on the way to the hunting club, before the musicians. Enter the third Arch to the right. Go inside.

    This guy looks like he should be making wooden boys more than cookoo clocks. Click on the little clock sitting by HIS right hand. (174/679)

    Now use your wallet on him. (177/679)

    Now head to the hunting club, don’t enter it, just go there. You’ll see some squad cars and the like. Click on them to get closer. (178/679)

    Click on the black cloaked figure, (Leber). Now use the report from the biology lab in chapter one on him. (Evidence Analysis Report) (180/679)

    To the left is a nice bunch of reporters. What do police like less than the press… Use the the evidence sheet on them instead. (185/679)

    Now you can enter the hunting club and talk to Xavier about:

      - How long has the club been around?

    Enter to the left. Look at the magazine on the table between the chairs. Now enter the door on the far right. They’ll be two doors and a plant. Pull out your CooKoo clock and hide it behind the plant. (193/679)

    Return to Xavier and a few moments. The cookoo clock will go off and Xavier will leave. Click on the podeum. Then open the drawer (194/679) and take the key’s. (197/679)

    Go back to the plant and use the key’s on the left door. (202/679)

    Click on the plant, then re-use the cookoo clock on the plant. Return to Xavier and wait again. Put the key’s where you found them. (203/679)

    Go back to the plant and doors, go down the door you unlocked earlier. Click on the animal heads. (204/679)

    Then on the skull. (205/679)

    Now click on the small black book, in the lower right-hand corner. (206/679)

    Click on the page that he opens and leave the screen. (208/679)

    Go to the right, click on the guns. “What the hell do these guys hunt anyway, Ninjas?”

    Now click on the pictures. (209/679) Once you leave this screen, Baron Von Zell shows up, uh oh.

    Nothing major happens, your just forced to leave. Leave the hunting club altogether and the return to the road map.

    Go to Perlach

    Von Glower’s House, Visit One (Last Visit FOREVER)

    Immediatly look at the mask on the shelf above Gabriel. Click on it. (210/679)

    Go inside, and use Grossberg’s phone number on the phone. (it’s sitting to the left of the couch) (236/679)

    Now write another letter to Grace. (237/679)

    Return to MarienPlatz

    MarienPlatz, Visit Three (End of Chapter Three)

    Go speak with you lawyer about:

    Now go to the post office, (Right after the musicians). Mail your letter to Gracie. (241/679)

    Go back into the club. Price will be inside now, speak with him about:

    Whew.. Well, try and talk to Baron Von Glower and you will get shued away, so.. Go up to Von Zell and Klingmann:

    CHAPTER FOUR: Labourious Research

    “I’ve changed the entire castle and Rittersburg section into one. You’ll see why.” -Jason Baker

    Rittersburg, Visit One

    Go straight into the Library. Click on the left bookcase to find a Bio on Ludwig II. (263/679)

    Read the entire book. (264/679)

    Leave the Castle and go into town. Go to the post office and ring the bell. Wow! A letter. (266/679)

    Go to the Gasthof to the right. The ‘Smiths’ will be sitting down at the table, click on them to say:

    Talk to Herr Hubur now, the guy at the bar:

    No luck what soever. Leave the Gasthof and head to the church, all the way to the left. Return to the tomb area to see Gerdde here, click on her. (276/679)

    Return to the castle. Go into that secret passage from Chapter 2 and go to the outside area. Click on the Roses. (278/679)

    Go all the way back to the church and reach Gerdde. Use the roses on her. (284/679) Aha! Car Key’s.

    Go to the Car, it’s outside the castle. Use the Key’s on it to enter the Road map. (285/679)

    Go to the portriat. Herrenchiemsee.

    Herrenchiemsee, (LAST VISIT FOREVER)

    Now starts the most Grueling part of the game. You must go place to place and click on everything in sight. I will compile a list in these next few sections describing those things, so hold on tight.

    Once you first enter, click on the lady.

    Click on the four strips of writing to the left.

    When you exit the four strips, you’ll be brought to four pictures, click on one. Then exit this screen. Return to the screen so you can see the lady at the counter. Click on the portrait of the women.

    Leave the picture and look at the full body portrait on the back wall. Back off it. Click on the EXIT that appears around the middle of the screen.

You’ll get closer to the lady…

    In this screen, you can enter TWO areas in the back, Display Rooms 1 and 2. Go left, or Display room 1.

    Display Room 1

    Click on the black box sticking out of the wall on the left side. It’ll have a picture of a man hanging over it. Click the picture.

    Now click the glass on the black box.

    Back up to the screen when you first entered display room 1. Then click on the robes way in back.

    - Read the message on the wall

    Go straight into town and into the Gasthof. Talk to Herr Hubur:

    Go into the castle now and Gerdde will mention a phone call… Professor Barclay must’ve called.

    This is simply the most annoying part of the game, exploring Neuschwanstein. Everything must be clicked like in the Ludwig Museum, AND you MUST listen to every single TOUR TAPE available, which sucks.

    Start off by clicking on the castle, (you start out in an outside view)

    The three things you can click on here is painting one, two and the door to the left of the open door. Click on the left painting. Click the picture.

    Listen to the tour tape. Exit to the right, it’ll take you to the other painting. Back up.

    Click on the closed door to get closer.

    - Click on the door again.

    Back up, exit to the right through the open door.

    BEDROOM

    Click on one of the two paintings on the wall. Use the tour tape. Back up.

    Enter the door far to the right to enter the chapel.
