Okay, so your crew has turned on you and stolen your beautiful ship. Now what?

Well, design and build a new ship and hunt down the mutineers, of course. But wait — the crew of the new ship will be turning on you too. And so goes Defect Spaceship Destruction Kit.

Knowing you’ll ultimately be fighting your own ships, you’ll want to make them powerful enough to destroy your foes but include flaws that can be exploited later. This can be a tricky balance.

Defect does have a story. There’s a theoretical particle that theoretically exists in only one place in the universe: the planet Asbestos. Corporations, governments, pirates and private citizens are fighting over theoretical prospecting rights. Several other planets have gone bankrupt trying to find a particle that might not even exist.

You are charged with defending planet Asbestos. However, your crew is comprised of prisoners who have been drafted into service. This idea isn’t exactly working too well. “Morale is low. Mutiny is inevitable.” And thus begins the cycle.

Defect Spaceship Destruction Kit will offer unprecedented freedom of creation on an epic scale. Currently, over 175 ship components can be mixed/matched, and more are on the way.

An extensive alpha phase is planned for PC and Mac, with the full release (sometime in 2015) also arriving on iPad and Android tablets.

The game has been Greenlit, and Three Phase Interactive has launched a Kickstarter campaign with a base goal of $40,000 AUD that will run until July 22, 2015. Your backing would be appreciated.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
