From the developer:

“It’s an ordinary Friday in the life of Daniel Noyer, washed-up advertiser and former entrepreneur who has fallen on hard times lately. Currently the lowest of the low at a publishing house, you receive an urgent, yet seemingly straightforward assignment: to find the company’s most important client, the renowned writer Sebastian P. Husher, who hasn’t been heard from in weeks.

“Upon your arrival at Husher’s mansion, you realize something’s wrong. The lights, still turned off at the onset of nightfall, reveal that no one is home. The dog, which was forewarned at the entrance, is nowhere to be found. The main door, left ajar, hints at a hallway drowned in shadows.

“And an eerie, haunting melody pierces a thundering silence.”

Song of Horror is a story-driven third-person survival horror game that takes classic, old-school inspiration and couples it with modern design and visuals. The game plays on the age-old fear of things that aren’t understood.

Players will take control of up to 16 characters who find themselves caught up in a nightmare.

The game employs no weapons, “traditional” enemies or typical combat. You’ll be confronted by something known only as The Presence. This entity will warp reality, screw up your senses, set traps that are fatal (yes, the game has permadeath) and play with you as a predator plays with its prey.

To survive, you’ll need to anticipate events and react. Different forms of danger will require wildly different approaches. Will you be able to adapt sufficiently to prevail?

Song of Horror will be released for PC, Mac and Linux on a date TBD. Protocol Games is looking to raise €75,000 on Kickstarter by July 3rd. Your backing would be appreciated.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
