The Hum is a sci-fi/horror game that puts the player in the aftermath of a sudden alien invasion. The player will not only have to find a way to survive, but will need to become increasingly involved in the nightmare in order to unravel the mystery behind it.

Considering the scope of The Hum (large) and the size of indie developer Thotwise (small), a decision was made to release a prequel called The Hum: Abductions. This way, it will be possible to make part of the game available to players before development of the full game is completed.

In Abductions you’ll become Holly Sanders, a wife and mother who is carrying on as best she can without her missing husband, who mysteriously vanished months before. Lonely and disturbed, with her little son Dan as only company, Holly will face a terrifying revelation.

The Hum will be an immersive, frightening, story-driven game, with the emphasis on narrative and atmosphere. You will be tested, toyed with and experimented on by aliens. You will suffer changes in time-perception (acceleration, for example), your ability to see and hear could be altered, or you could become a victim of illusions. Whatever happens, you can bet it will be scary.

The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 4 and will support VR/Oculus Rift. Players will be able to enjoy The Hum without a VR device, but the game will emphasize the VR experience.

The plan is to release The Hum: Abductions on July 15th for PC, Mac and PS4. Meanwhile, eyes on the skies, y’all.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
