The Human Gallery: Discover Images That Exist in the Mind of a Psychopath
An artist seeking inspiration goes where no one has gone before in this game of psychological horror
The Human Gallery is an upcoming psychological horror game by indie developer Jesse Makkonen, who gave us 2014’s Silence of the Sleep.
This time, Jesse will transport the player into a sick mind by way of a 2D side-scroller for PC. Yours is the role of an arist who seeks inspiration by entering the mind of a psychopath.
After you embark on your journey, however, you encounter one small problem. You get stuck inside the sick dude’s head. Oh, crap.
Your only hope of leaving the nightmare in which you find yourself lies in venturing further into it. This could very well be more inspiration than you ever wanted.
The emphasis of The Human Gallery will be on atmosphere and overall player experience. To that end, the game will have no fancy mechanics.
The interface will be simple: you’ll move side-to-side and carry a mouse-controlled oil lamp as you explore the disturbed world in which you’re trapped and interact with its environment. The gameplay experience will be enhanced by a complex, atmospheric soundtrack and unique digital graphics.
As with Silence of the Sleep, The Human Gallery is the effort of just one person. Jesse Makkonen, who lives in Kuopio, Finland, is creating the game’s graphics, animation, coding, music, etc. IOW, the whole shebang. And get this: he’s basically self-taught. If you aren’t impressed by this, there’s something wrong with you.
The Human Gallery will be released on PC at a date TDB. According to Jesse’s press page, the game’s regular price will be one million dollars. Things sure must be expensive in Finland.
