Once upon a time…2008, to be exact…a short game called Bloodwood was created with Adventure Maker.

Fast-forward to 2015. Indie developer Luminy Studios (which consists of only two people!), in cooperation with an online collective of indies known as The Icehouse, is currently working on Bloodwood Reload. This will represent a complete re-tooling of the game in real-time 3D using the Unity Engine. Navigation will be point-and-click in first-person perspective.

And how much will this game cost, you ask? Why, nothing!

According to Luminy, the focus of Bloodwood Reload will be “on exploration, discovery and an interaction with the beautiful and dark world of Bloodwood; the game contains no combat action of any kind, and the few scary parts of the game are less about terror and more about creating an atmosphere of a clammy unease.”

Clammy unease. Ahhhhh.

Bloodwood Reload takes place in a central European village that appears trapped in time — the 1700s to be exact. A forest surrounds the village. It consists of trees. Hmmm… Nothing unusual there. But wait, the wood of these trees is blood red and completely unique!

A greedy logging company by the name of White Wood (how ironic) hears about this, and immediately dispatches men to the village to acquire rights to exploit the forest. Uh-oh. Big mistake.

You see, the village has something in addition to a red forest: a dark past. It’s a past that will draw the loggers into a absolute nightmare. Heh.

The story of Bloodwood: Reload will be a mixture of mystery and horror fiction. It’s been inspired by the likes of Clive Barker and Stephen King (be still my heart!). The game will be released at a date TBD for Windows/PC, and will be localized in English, Spanish and Italian.

A Greenlight campaign is in progress. So go vote, already!

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
