The thought of a fairytale forest tends to conjure up warm and friendly feelings, and images of flowers in bloom and rainbows. But such is not the case in the Peaceful Forest of the Deep Blue Sky.

The story of Nubarron is unlike any other fairytale. Trouble has arrived in the forest. Something has gone wrong with one of its inhabitants.

Gnome, one of the merry and lucky forest-dwellers, has lost his hat. This unfortunate event turns out to be more serious than it may seem at first.

Gnome’s hat is the source of his luck, and its absence has resulted in something peculiar: it’s been replaced by a stormy Cloud. Hovering above Gnome’s head and moving as he moves, she will be Gnome’s dangerous companion throughout a long journey that’s about to commence.

Cloud enjoys throwing lightning at various things on the ground. One of them is Gnome, who must keep moving or risk being hit. She will also help Gnome by dispatching enemies, bringing light to dark places, providing electricity to power up machines and setting things on fire.

Nubarron‘s graphics are being created using digital painting techniques, providing a nice artistic look. This is something not often seen in this type of game.

Things don’t work as one might expect in this twisted world, and the forest is aware of this. You’ll perceive the world morphing in the most mischievous ways at every single step.

Above all, Gnome wants his luck back. And so, a Shakespearean drama begins…

Nubarron is being developed by indie studio Nasty Cloud for PC, Mac and Linux with the Unity engine. A Kickstarter campaign is in progress until November 21, 2014. Please consider offering your support!

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
