Kholat “The Light is On” Trailer and Game Info – September 3, 2014

The Path trailer is the first showing the actual Kholat gameplay. Please note that it’s still pre-alpha build and it doesn’t represent the quality of a finished game. The cavern in the video is one of many locations from the big, open world of Kholat.

In development by indie studio IMGN.PRO, Kholat is inspired by a true story known as the Dyatlov Pass Incident. Players follow the path of a group of Russian students, all experienced ski-hikers who, in 1959, went on an expedition in the northern Ural Mountains. They never reached their destination, and all were found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Years after the actual event, players find themselves in the area where the tragedy occurred, with a chance to discover what really happened. The game, which is nonlinear, has an atmosphere of anxiety and dread that’s created by a fear management system. This measures out fear and uncertainty according to what the player happens to be doing. It will make each playthrough unique.

Key Facts and Features

  • First-person horror experience game
  • Inspired by true events
  • Open-world map

  • Main storyline as well as a great deal of background plot for players to discover

Kholat will be released in Q1 2015 for Windows and Mac.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
