In I Can’t Escape: Darkness from indie developer Fancy Fish Games, the mood of suspense and desperation has been heightened to a terrifying degree. You’ll find yourself in a musty, dimly-lit dungeon complete with disturbing visuals and a soundscape that offers no comfort. If that’s not bad enough, the more you try to escape the deeper you’ll fall into despair.

I Can’t Escape: Darkness is the spiritual successor to the popular 2013 one-month experiment I Can’t Escape, which has spooked and thrilled over 250,000 players. Fancy Fish Games Founder David Maletz: “There were some great features left on the cutting room floor when we made I Can’t Escape and some amazing post-release feedback that we’ve gone back and woven into the fabric of I Can’t Escape: Darkness.”

Maletz adds, “The goal of  I Can’t Escape: Darkness is to create a stronger atmosphere and experiment with a new mechanic that will once again tantalize the player with the possibility of escape and control, but then push them farther from their goals almost against their will. With everything conspiring against you, escape is made even more difficult by the fact that  I Can’t Escape: Darkness is procedurally generated each time you play. Nobody can tell you how to get out. You still won’t escape.”

More info about the game will be disclosed in the coming weeks.  I Can’t Escape: Darkness will be released early in 2015.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
