The developers at Risin’ Goat love graphic adventures — both old and new — such as Day of the Tentacle, Loom, Broken Sword, Gabriel Knight, Machinarium, The Cave and Gemini Rue. They want their first project to pay tribute to this wonderful genre.
A Rite From the Stars will offer a visual presentation not often seen in the genre: a fully 3D environment using a cartoonish art style. The game will also introduce interesting and unique gameplay features to make the experience of playing it fresh while being true to its point-and-click nature.
Kirm, the game’s hero, is a mute boy eager to become a man and a legend. He will have to demonstrate that he is braver, smarter and quicker than he seems. The trials that await him are not easy, but he will not be alone. Hoku, his guiding star, will accompany him and light his paths.
The Makoa Tribe is led by three powerful masters. Each one will guide Kirm in a particular path. They are The Chief, Ailani, Master of Wisdom; The Hunter, Kekoa, Master of Courage; and Waha Nui, The Shaman, Master of Spirit. In the end, they will decide if Kirm is worthy of becoming not only a member of the tribe but a respected one.
A Rite From the Stars features pointing-and-clicking, three paths to complete in any order, a unique mechanic for each path, performance-based achievements and different endings. It does not feature pixel-hunting, pointless walks or inventory.
Depending on funds raised, the game will be released for Wii U, Ouya, Windows, Mac and Linux. Tablets may be considered if additional funding goals are met.
The game’s Kickstarter campaign runs until September 5, 2014. If you like what you see, please consider supporting A Rite From the Stars.
