Editor’s Note: This Cradle (an adventure game currently in development by Flying Cafe for Semianimals, Kiev, Ukraine) is not to be confused with Aderyn’s Cradle (an RPG currently in development by Mojo Game Studios, Pittsburgh) which also started out as Cradle.

Along with new material for this Cradle, I’ll be reposting some older material that appeared on JA’s previous website.

Making the Character Tabaha

Cradle is a first-person sci-fi adventure with freedom of movement. The story is built around the relationship between the protagonist and a mechanical girl who, due to enigmatic circumstances, find themselves together in a yurt among the desert Mongolian hills.

The player must restore the lost functions of his companion’s mechanical body. Once this is accomplished, the two of you will work together to reveal the mystery of the neglected entertainment park found not far from the yurt.

The game’s dialog, which is a pivotal part of Cradle, has been completed. The Unigine team agreed to add changes to the engine code, which fixed several critical bugs.

The concept of in-game music has been broadened. Along with story-driven tracks played in the key spots, ambient music has been added to the game.

Cradle will be released on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android at a date TBD.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
