News: Whispering Willows Breezes Into View – March 27, 2014

Whispering Willows, from indie developer Night Light Interactive, is a horror adventure puzzler that features a deep, dark narrative experience.

Players control Elena, a girl who embarks on a harrowing journey to find her missing father and discover the secrets of the Willows Mansion. She carries a unique amulet that allows her to astral-project her spirit into a ghostly realm and communicate with the dead.

As a spirit unbound by physical form, Elena is able to traverse otherwise insurmountable obstacles and piece together the dark history of the Willows Estate.

Fly through the air, squeeze through cracks no mortal could fit through, manipulate time to your will, freeze objects, assist lingering souls and harness the power of light to ward off the mansion’s evil spirits.

Elena must use both her spectral and physical forms as she navigates through the mysterious estate, solving puzzles and searching for her father.

Whispering Willows has won a number of honors, including the Seattle Indie Gaming Competition in 2014 and the Cerebral Indie Developer Grant in 2013. The game also placed as a finalist in the Captivate Conference Game Design Competition, and won the title of Most Immersive at the 2013 OUYA CREATE Game Jam.

Features:

  • Impressive visuals and mysteries galore
  • An eerie soundtrack
  • Stunning 2D graphics, a strong narrative, diverse characters and unique environments
  • Takes place in a mansion that has a history of haunting

Whispering Willows will be released on OUYA May 27th and Windows, Mac and Linux June 17th.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
