Draugen – First Teaser Trailer – September 2, 2014

Draugen, a first-person survival horror adventure, is set among the deep fjords and towering mountains of Norway’s awe-inspiring west coast. The game is a dark and disturbing journey into the pitch black heart of Norwegian national romanticism as seen through the eyes of an American nature photographer, botanist and entomologist.

Inspired by Scandinavian literature, legends and fairy tales as well as Norse mythology and Icelandic sagas, Draugen is set in the early 1920s and delves into the darkest secrets of a remote fishing community where every single soul has mysteriously vanished.

There is definitely more to this place than meets the eye.

Now and again, a woman in black appears in the distance. Who is she? What’s her connection to this place?

Who is the little girl singing broken lullabies as the sky begins to darken? And when night falls and those last precious drops of kerosene in the lamp feed a fragile, flickering flame, what hides out there in the darkness and in the cold, black sea?

Draugen (Norwegian, meaning “the Draug”) is an undead creature from Norse mythology. The original Norse meaning of the word is “ghost.”

However, unlike “traditional” ghosts, the Draug has a corporeal body and physical abilities. Draug reside in their watery graves, guarding the treasures and secrets that were buried with them. And they will protect those secrets at any cost…

Discover the clues. Uncover the memories.

Decipher the past. Survive the night.

The Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) has awarded Red Thread Games a $144,000 grant for the development of Draugen. The game will be released for PC, Mac, Linux and next-generation consoles. No release date has yet been established.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
