Rain World takes place in the ruins of an ancient alien civilization. Here, a lonely, nomadic slugcat hunts for food and tries to survive.

Bone-crushing, intense rain pounds the surface regularly, making life almost impossible. The creatures in this world hibernate most of the time, but in the few brief dry periods they search for enough food to survive another hibernation cycle.

Inspired by the aesthetics and simplicity of 16-bit classics, gameplay consists of platforming and fast-paced sneaking both on your prey and in order to avoid larger creatures. A key focus in the development of Rain World is enemy AI: it’s cunning, vicious and always hunting you.

Features:

  • Sneak, climb, and pounce your way through an exotic alien landscape full of hidden secrets and undiscovered dangers
  • Nimble controls and unique physics-and-code based animation gives characters a natural fluidity of movement and intuitive weight for lighting quick high-wire action
  • Intense, primal predator encounters will challenge your reflexes. Limited resources and the constant impending threat of rain will test your nerve. This is not an easy game!
  • Open-ended sandbox style narrative lets you make life-or-death choices… and deal with the consequences
  • Both single-player and co-op
  • Seriously Mega-Cute Slugcat character. Isn’t this why we’re all here in the first place?

Rain World has been in development almost three years. It will be released for PC and Mac. A Kickstarter campaign is in progress until February 13, 2014, and the game has been Greenlit. It’s expected to be released in Fall 2014.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
