Indie developer Space Enigma Studios intends to make Space Pioneer more than just a videogame and create something that mirrors the complexity of our own reality. The project is based on images from the Hubble Space Telescope, ESA/NASA, the Getty Museum, the Memorial Museum of Space Exploration, the Baikonur Cosmodrome Museum, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics.

The development team consists of world famous astronauts, engineers, designers, programmers, artists and architects. Space Pioneer will be the most accurate virtual representation of our universe to date.
It’s the 22nd century. You’re a cadet at the Academy of Astronauts, which is part of the Global Space Agency. On a routine training mission in deep space, you and your fellow cadets discover an Apollo module that shouldn’t be where it is. Further, you’ve heard that others have encountered similar artifacts that appear to have originated from Earth’s past.

This mystery serves as a catalyst for the game’s subsequent developments and events, which revolve around the exploration of a virtual in-game universe via an upgradable and customizable spaceship.

Space Pioneer will include a database that details humanity’s cultural and scientific history. Deviation from established scientific literature will occur only in unknown areas such as other civilizations and alien life.

Everything in the game will be extremely customizable, and the way you explore the universe will be up to you — even if you want to destroy everything that exists, including the universe itself.

Space Pioneer will launch on Windows and Linux in 2015. It will be DRM-free. A Kickstarter campaign is in progress until March 11, 2014.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
