The point-and-click insanity of The Slaughter, a 2D noir-style adventure, has hit Kickstarter (you can watch the video here).

Experience an atmosphere inspired by the immersive and disorienting works of artists, authors, filmmakers, musicians and videogames, from David Lynch, Pink Floyd and King Crimson to Max Ernst, Cormac McCarthy and the Final Fantasy series.

Gameplay is in the style of classic LucasArts and Revolution games, but with a darker story.

A serial killer is loose in Victorian London. Players step into the shoes of private detective Sydney Emerson as he explores the seedy streets and searches the slums, taverns, opium dens and even his own dreams and hallucinations for clues.

Join Sydney as he delves into the deeper human condition and is thrust into perilous and increasingly surreal situations, walking the line between dreams and reality.

The game’s developer, Brainchild Productions, is a one-man operation — that one man being Alexander Francois. He’s creating every aspect of The Slaughter including animation, music, programming and writing.

Anticipated platforms for the game include Windows, Mac, Linux, Mobile, iPhone, iPad and Android. Its current projected release date is July 2014.

The Kickstarter campaign runs until December 13, 2013.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
