The
Moment of Silence
Developer Diary: Graphics and FMV

The FMV (Full Motion Video)
sequences for The Moment of Silence were created by The Lightworks,
responsible for sequences in such games like Rogue Squadron III –
Rebel Strike. In The Moment of Silence, The Lightworks created around
15 minutes of high quality FMV work. The sequences enhances the plot
of the game, making action sequences which keep to the plot and flows
into each new section. The main focus of the actual gameplay of The
Moment of Silence was to keep the action sections away from the game
itself, where instant death or game over sequences could not occur.
The action sequences will be focused in the FMV to let the main game
itself retain its roots in the adventure game genre and not have needless
sequences to break up the adventuring.

As well as beautiful FMV
in The Moment of Silence, the in-game world is crafted to live and
breathe like a believable world. With a mix of static 2D backgrounds
and seamlessly integrated FMV, the world of The Moment of Silence
is beautiful and hugely detailed, but still with a moving, living,
breathing environment. The Moment of Silence is powered by the House
of Tales own creation, the Cougar Adventure Engine 2.0, which gives
the game the ability to use 2D static back-grounds and FMV as well
as add particle effects into game, such as snow, rain and even mirror
or water reflections, adding more life to the game’s environments.

The Moment of Silence will
be a true adventure game, having the player sucked into right from
the beginning to end, having not only a game that is interesting and
fun to play, but also a game that is fantastic to look at and watch
as the action unfolds.

The Moment of Silence will
be released in the UK on the 5th of November 2004 priced £29.99.
