The
Legend of the Prophet and the Assassin
Developer/Publisher: Arxel
Tribe
Projected Release Date: October 2000
Platform:
(CD and DVD)
Genre: Adventure Game with Action Stages
The team at Arxel Tribe has created some of my favorite games. They have
given us a number of top-quality products, such as Faust, Pompeii,
Ring, and the original Pilgrim. The Legend of the Prophet and the
Assassin is a collaboration between Paulo Coelho (Pilgrim I; The
Alchemist; The Fifth Mountain; Veronika) and Arxel Tribe. The game
is not a sequel to the first Pilgrim, but I have read that the
original hero will make a cameo appearance.
The first installment of the Pilgrim saga was not released in
the United States, and thus it was overlooked by many American adventure
gamers. That is very sad, as it is one of the loveliest games that I have
ever played. The graphics and colors are beautiful. The music is a variety
of classical madrigal that sets off the storyline like it is a valuable
solitaire diamond. And the story itself is enchanting. If you can find
a copy, I strongly urge you to play it. The game is set in early France,
in the midst of religious conflict and intrigue. Our young hero must journey
from his home to the city of Toulouse to deliver a vital script. How he
gets to Toulouse, the people he meets along the way, and his loyalty to
an unknown objective contribute to a stunning plot. Now we have the opportunity
to play another Arxel Tribe game that has every indication of being an
even greater masterpiece.
“For more than fifteen decades the straight blades of the West clashed
with the curved blades (the scimitar) of the East.” The Crusaders
have been routed from Jerusalem by the rebel Turks of the Khalif of Cairo.
Now a great legend, As-Sayf, forged out of the hot steel of war into a
fearless man-at-arms, will follow the winds to a mythical city, Jebus,
where he will find a path to an unknown future.
Look at the magnificent screenshots. Sit back in your chair and relax.
Take a big, deep breath and close your eyes. Engage your imagination.
You are streaking across the sands on a stallion of great elegance and
beauty. You mold to his back like you were born there. Your environment
sparkles with soft earth colors. The orchestral music rises and falls
with the actions of the game. And you experience The Legend of the
Prophet and the Assassin as Tancrede de Nerac, the handsome soldier
of fortune, who was once a Knight Templar and who now makes his fortune
as the bandit As-Sayf.
Tancrede has lost trust for his country and its government. His faith
is in question. And he is committed to travel the deserts of the East
as he searches for his nemesis, Simon de Lancrois, an evil exploiter and
deceiver of many. You will explore the shifting sands of Syria, the back
streets of the city of Jerusalem, and the Monastery of St. Catherine at
Mount Moses. You must find de Lancrois and right the wrongs of time.
According to Arxel Tribe, this game will be an enormous and thrilling
saga and will be released in two parts. The first will be available in
October of 2000. The second is scheduled for release in the early spring
of 2001. The Legend of the Prophet and the Assassin will be a first-person
3D adventure/action game with more than 30 human characters, 360-degree
rotations, dialogs with theme choices, and direct onscreen access to weapons.
I am pleased to report that Arxel Tribe has been generous enough to grant
Just Adventure a one-month United States exclusive to the attached screenshots
and story information. Just Adventure will also present further story
and character material and a movie download from The Legend of the
Prophet and the Assassin within the next week or so. Remember that
you saw it here at JA. We will keep you posted as the game moves toward
completion. I can hardly wait …
