The Testament of Sherlock Holmes
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is Frogwares’ darkest Holmes: a bishop tortured to death in Knightsbridge, a necklace Holmes may have swapped, a journalist who wants him ruined, and a Watson who begins to wonder whether his friend has gone over to the other side. This walkthrough covers the whole case, including the Toby sections, the Watson-alone chapters, every puzzle solution and all 32 achievements.
How the game plays
WASD to move, hold left Shift or double click to run, left click to act, right click to skip dialogue and open the inventory, Space for a hint, Esc for the menu and saving. R (or the middle button) cycles third person, first person and point-and-click. A hand cursor acts, a magnifier examines; a blue ring means actions remain, green means done. The inventory tabs: bag, journal (all dialogue), documents, deduction boards, characters (switching is automatic except at the mill), achievements, map, cutscenes. Combine items by dragging one onto another. Fifteen hints earn the achievement Feeling Around.
The marquis’s house
The tutorial: the hole in the display case left of the fireplace, the window frame and the diamond scratch, the magnifying glass from the mantel, the sheet music by the piano (magnifier on the tiny handprint), the view modes, the hint key. Then: the dead fish in the aquarium, the candle on the carpet, the papers, the safe right of the fireplace, the bell pull, the upturned ornaments, the burnt chair and the soot, the screen left of the sofa (the thief hid there), the parquet, the front door. Inspector Baynes arrives; Holmes reconstructs the theft and finds the necklace: Elementary!
221B and the bishop
Read the Global Explorer: Farley claims the Samoan necklace is a fake swapped by Holmes; Prince Woodville’s status. Let Baynes in, examine the necklace’s three hotspots: a crude fake. Watson takes the map from the desk and travels to the Knightsbridge diocese: the reverend shows the murder scene and throws you out on learning you are not police; Watson’s board: click Wealth, then the new block (the bishop owned nothing of value, even in his safe). Holmes: the body: bound legs, size nine feet, the rope and burns, a finger that is not his, a piece of rope; the broken fingers, the forearm wounds, the self-inflicted stomach scratches, the long-knife cuts, skin between his teeth (he chewed his own hands), no shoes. Send Watson and the reverend to Baynes. Pin on the veranda lock: bend the three segments to match the profile shown, confirm. The ink stain on the rug is on the wrong side: the rug was flipped; lift the corner by the desk, the stain, roll the rug: a chessboard floor; the cloth-covered knight statue with a note: the right square is where the knight stands after visiting all the others. Knight’s tour from the top left (any valid tour; the author’s ended on the centre square); pry that tile with the penknife: the reverend’s letters about his illegitimate children. Choose Blackmail with him (needed for a later achievement): the safe takes rods hidden round the room: three nails on the bookcase’s right shelf, one on the bed, two on the veranda table, one in the plant left of the veranda chair. Place seven nails so no row, column or diagonal holds two (a seven-queens layout), turn the handle: Safecracker if unskipped. The reverend runs to the police.
