Ghostly Desires Walkthrough

Welcome to what is, arguably,
the worst adventure game ever made. It is a shame that adult entertainment
comes up with this sort of
tripe, when there is really
no reason why there couldn’t be a graphic adventure with a graphic storyline.
Although inspired by The 7th Guest, Ghostly Desires fails to
deliver on any grounds.

BACKGROUND STORY

To paraphrase the creators…

The game is set in Cortland Manor, a renowned house of ill repute,
at the turn of the century. The brothel was reconstructed from blueprints
after the Great Plumb Hollow fire of 1911. Seven women, including
the Madame, were killed in the blaze.

Rumors about the haunted whorehouse spread and real estate agents
were unable to sell Cortland Manor, causing it to fall into disrepair.

The game begins with you visiting Cortland Manor over eighty years
after the fire. You discover you are not alone: the Madame of the
brothel, Lexiana O’Brian, is trapped in the house, along with six
women that perished with her in the fire. The only way their spirits
can be set free is to have one last ghostly desire fulfilled.

You can fulfill the ghostly
desires in any order. Only Lexiana’s
must be left until all the others are freed.

DOWNSTAIRS

Parlor (Lisa’s
Ghostly Desire)

This is the room to the
left of the staircase. Your task is to play “Twinkle,
Twinkle, Little Star”.

Start with the key marked
with the arrow (“C” for the
more musical players). Number this key “1”, the next
one to the right, “2”, etc. Play the keys in this order:

1 (twice) 5 (twice) 6 (twice) 5 4 (twice) 3 (twice) 2 (twice) 1

Alternately, in musical form:

This puzzle can be a bit
touchy. I had about a 75% success rate with it. Sometimes, it just
doesn’t work even if you play it
correctly. Good work, programmers!

You are rewarded (?) with
a cheap soft porn video with awful acting, unconvincing eroticism,
and hairdos from Hell (or at least the 1980s).
You have to see them to believe them…

Foyer (Amanda’s
Ghostly Desire)

This is the little area behind the staircase.

Looking at any phone will tell you that the corresponding number
for Herb is 4372. Have the developers never heard of a challenge.
Dial 4372 to free Amanda and watch another god awful video.

Library

This is the room to the right of the staircase. Climb the spiral
staircase to the library above. There are a few books that can be
accessed. They provide, variously, web links for hints and other
(quality!?!) products.

There is a cheat that
solves the most recently accessed puzzle instantly (but if you
were so stupid that you needed it, you probably couldn’t
find this book on the shelf).

Of most importance is a copy of PlayGhost magazine, which contains
a list in the back of which of the residents you have freed as well
as some titillating photos of Lexiana (I only looked at this magazine
to read the articles!).

As you explore, you’ll find the library and inside the library,
you’ll find a copy of PlayGhost Magazine. On the very last page of
the magazine, you will find a checklist with the names of all six
women. Each time you satisfy a woman’s ghostly desire, a checkmark
appears next to her name.

When you have satisfied all six ghostly desires, come back to the
library and read the magazine one last time.

As you explore, you’ll
find the library and inside the library, you’ll find a book called
The Cheater’s Handbook. If you ever find
yourself stumped on a puzzle, walk straight to the library
and read the Cheater’s Handbook. You will instantly be transported back to
the puzzle and, as far as the computer is concerned, you have solved it.

UPSTAIRS

Bedroom 1 (Kimberly’s
Ghostly Desire)

First door on the left upstairs. You must repair a broken heart.

Now, you just need to find a blind, intellectually handicapped monkey
to help you fit the pieces like this:

Congratulations! Treat yourself to some more mind-numbing video
footage.

Bedroom 2 (Susan’s
Ghostly Desire)

Susan’s soul can
be freed from the room in the second door on the left.

A simple concentration-type
matching game. Don’t strain your
brain with this one.

There are twenty bricks that need to be removed. The arrow indicates
brick 1. Here are the matches:

Bathroom (Mariene’s
Ghostly Desire)

Mariene’s site of death was the bathroom (somewhat ironic
considering the house burned down!). It’s opposite bedroom
2.

This is probably the biggest challenge in the house. Perhaps it
could be used as a test to distinguish humans from other species?

You need to get the temperature
for Mariene’s bath just right
at 98.6F:

Click twice on the hot tap, then twice on the cold one, and finally
twice on the hot one again.

Watch a not too hot video.
Take a cold shower and continue the game if you don’t have
some socks to iron.

Bedroom 3 (Catherine’s
Ghostly Desire)

The last room upstairs is the last door on left or first door on
right depending on which way you went up the stairs.

Catherine’s jewelry
box is all that remains of her. But how to open it? I suspect that
there are ameba that might be able to
manage it:

Click on the first button,
then the third, and then the second. Voila! Feel your brain melting
yet? Well, now you can! Sit back and
watch the show…

DOWNSTAIRS FINALE

Library (Lexiana’s
Ghostly Desire)

We’re coming to the end now… Return
to the library and look through PlayGhost again. Feel better, pervert?

Click on the page with
the girls’ names and a secret door
and tunnel is revealed. Lexiana reveals her ghostly desire: she wants
to be touched by you. Only men could have written this…

Click on her successively
when she tells you to remove her “impediments”.
Keep clicking until all impediments are gone (laugh at the “Action” call
you can hear on one occasion just before she speaks!). Then click
on her until she is completely pleasured.

Watch the credits.

Feel disgusted with yourself. Do yourself a favor and give this
game to someone you hate.
