Baron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnarok Walkthrough, part 1 of 6

part 1 of 6 about 9 minutes to read

The puzzles are all logical or exploration based. There is very little
inventory to worry about.

There are four main goals in the game:

  1. Enter Utopia
  2. Collect all ten Rune Stones
  3. Dissolve all ten Rune Stones
  4. Close the Mystic Portal and Save the World™

The game is fairly non-linear. You can explore anywhere you want,
collect stones in any order and dissolve stones in any order. Of course,
there will be some places you can’t get to until certain puzzles are
solved, so there are limits to your freedom.

Clues are scattered everywhere. You will want to explore each location
very carefully and take note of anything which looks out of place.
Hot spots can be anywhere.

You will especially want to keep track of the four symbols which
are scattered everywhere: a red “eye”, a yellow box, a
blue diamond and a fat green cross. Note the location of each as you
will need an accurate count by the end of the game. Each Location
hint will include a symbol count, just in case.

This game is a lot of fun, but it contains a lot of plot holes. So
just for fun, I will try to count them as well. Email me if you can
think of any I missed. Here is an example from the Introduction…

Plot Holes

  • We have been assigned to go to an abandoned building, illegally
break into it and then take photographic evidence of our crime.
    Yeah, I’m OK with that.
  • We are traveling during the day (good time for photography)
so as to arrive at night (bad time for photography.)

Locations

Outside Entrance

Note

  • Six Pedestals with letters and red buttons
  • An underground cable
  • A sewer access blocked by metal bars
  • An advertisement in the dust bin.

Plot Holes

  • The gate is sealed. How did we get in here?
  • The building is supposed to be finished. Why all the heavy construction
    equipment and underground piping?
  • Finishing work, such as tiles, lamps and statues, would not
have been installed until after the heavy equipment was long gone.
  • You are a photographer for a magazine. Why do you have a video
    camera?
  • And where is your regular camera, lenses, lights and large box
    of batteries?
  • You were told to expect to be here for quite a while. Where
are your tools, water, snacks and torch?
  • The building has been abandoned for two years. Why are all those
    lights on?
  • Why is there still electricity connected to the building? Wouldn’t
the power companies have disconnected long ago?
  • And again, why all the heavy construction equipment? That stuff
is usually rented by the day and it has just sat there for two
    years?

Ancient Sewer

Plot Holes

  • An ancient sewer, large enough to walk through, in the middle
    of nowhere
  • Apparent age of bricks, door and chains vs when it’s supposed
    to have been made
  • Where’s the light switch?
  • Aaron was hiding here for two years. Eating and drinking what?
And the ghost only gets him now?
  • You must be the chosen one because you have the amulet. Aaron
had the amulet for two years, but he wasn’t the chosen one?

Modern Sewer

Symbols

  • Red Eye in center of support

Plot Holes

  • Explain to me again why you need an underground access this
large for one building out in the middle of nowhere.

Maintenance Room

Note

  • Furnace access and controls (wheels on top)
  • Papers on desk
  • Papers on bulletin board
  • Rune Stone in box on desk
  • Emergency Power puzzle

Plot Holes

  • Where is the coffee/tea maker?
  • How do you open that manhole cover?

Commercial Hallway

Note

  • Medical Bay top of door
  • Medical Bay bottom of door
  • Emergency Power Control Point near floor to left of Kid’s
    Kingdom
  • Alphabet Board next to door of Kid’s Kingdom
  • Emergency Power Control Point near floor to right of Café
  • Control Panel next to door of Blue Dolphin Swimming Pool

Symbols

  • Yellow Box on wall right of Kid’s Kingdom door
  • Red Eye on couch in front of Café

Plot Holes

  • That must have been very cheap paint to peel like that after
    only two British years.
  • Is that an Emergency Exit sign over the door to maintenance?
Really? How does a panicked crowd get out through there?
  • Just where are the mandatory emergency exits?
  • No commercial entrance? The only customers for the Café
are to come from the lobby?
  • Where is the WC?

Café

Symbols

  • Yellow Box on table
  • Green Cross on table

Plot Holes

  • Famous architect designs fancy entrance to café then
makes you walk through unfinished hallway and open a plain door
to get to either (unmarked) café or (unmarked) game room/pub.
  • Did I mention the cheap paint?

Game Room/Pub

  • Nothing here except the one Rune Stone Dissolution Puzzle. It
will not activate until you place the correct Rune Stone in the
    center.
  • The door in the back can be used as a shortcut to the Inner Garden.

Lobby

Note

  • Emergency Power Control Point near floor right of “working”
    elevator
  • Loose tile in floor right of broken elevator
  • Rune Stone under loose tile

Symbols

  • Yellow Box on post card on Information Desk

Plot Holes

  • There is graffiti everywhere, but no signs of partying. So kids
break in, but don’t bring their friends back to trash the
    place?
  • The vandals could get in, but you had to solve puzzles and go
through sewers? No graffiti in the sewers.
  • Explain all the wine/Champagne bottles. Why weren’t they
removed? Or trashed by the vandals?
  • Or did the Unknown Horror get them the very night they broke
in while leaving Aaron alone for two years?
  • Why did the workmen leave their tools in the lobby?
  • Where are the emergency stairs (In Case of Fire, Use Stairs,
    Not Elevator)?

Lobby Mezzanine

Note

  • Emergency Power Connection Point near floor to left of double
    doors

Symbols

  • Yellow Box on box in front of Ladies Room

Plot Holes

  • Power seems to be on for the whole building, but we still need
emergency power for the elevator and the Garden Mezzanine door.
  • Why is that door electrified, but none of the others?
  • Where is the Handicap/Disability access?

Inner Garden

Note

  • Magazine on table to the right
  • Magazine has clue to Emergency Power Puzzle in Maintenance Room.
  • Rune Stone in box next to entrance to Game Room/Pub
  • Did you know that the architectural style of a square building
built around an open court in the center was called a Tenement?
The tenements were a clever idea to get additional sunlight into
the central rooms. Unfortunately, they got a bad reputation when
tenants started throwing their garbage out the windows into the
court causing the whole place to stink.

Symbols

  • Red Eye on base of column opposite side from double doors

Plot Holes

  • How do you get service in this joint?
  • Red footprints (not shoe prints) coming out of water leading
to red hand print on door. That’s either red paint or very
fresh blood. And comes straight out of the water which should
have washed it off. And doesn’t get fainter as it progresses.
  • How does this garden stay perfect after two years of neglect?
Which would include at least one winter?

Information Desk

Note

  • Maps of several floors
  • Notepad with list of ten Rune Stone attributes and where their
    Dissolution machine is located
  • Safe with strange combination lock

Plot Holes

  • Building/Project has been shut down for how long and nobody
    has taken the computer?

Blue Dolphin Swimming Pool

Note

  • Hair spray in locker room
  • Bucket in shower room
  • Rune Stone in circular pool area (Hot tub? Jacuzzi?)
  • Yellow note pad on table in lounge area. Contains clue to fuse
    puzzle.

Symbols

  • Green Cross under hair spray
  • Blue Diamond in shower room bucket
  • Yellow Square on tiles near bar
  • Yellow Square at top of stairs (go to top of stairs to water
slide and from there look down)
  • Green cross on yellow note pad

Plot Holes

  • The place never opened, yet this area shows evidence of being
used. Would the Nanny State really allow the maintenance crew
to swim without a lifeguard on duty?
  • How do the workers get behind the bar to sell ice cream and
    lovely drinks?
  • Why do you have to pump the water out to get the Rune Stone?
I would have just rolled my sleeves up and nabbed it.
  • And no one ever noticed all these lights left on?

Blue Dolphin Mezzanine

Note

  • Go to the far table and then look at the paper under the chair.
This has the combination to the security door as well as the locations
of the four Emergency Power Control Points.

Inner Garden Mezzanine

Note

  • The interesting object in the garden to the right. It is one
of the Rune Stone Dissolution puzzles and will only activate when
the correct Rune Stone is placed in the hole on the side.
  • From the center, look up and see the pretty coloured windows.
Be sure to note the colour and position of all the windows including
    the unlit ones.

Symbols

  • Yellow Square under teacup on table to left

Plot Holes

  • I think we mentioned Handicap access.
  • Seriously, how do you get service up here? It’s four o’clock
and you would like a nice hot cup of tea with scones and clotted
butter. Do you wave a flag? Was the management going to provide
    vuvuzelas?
  • And how was the service to arrive? Would the staff bring the
hot food and beverages through the public lobby and up the public
    stairs? Truly award-winning architecture.
  • Are the coloured windows permanently blocked? Or are those apartments
    constantly flooded with coloured light?

First Floor

Note

  • The elevator is completely blocked. You can’t get out.
  • Yet the map from the Information Desk indicates that there are
    interesting things here.

Plot Holes

  • Actually, this is not a plot hole. In England, where the building
is located, the ground floor is called the Ground Floor and the
first floor above the ground floor is called the First Floor.
If the building had been located in the USA, then the ground floor
would be called the First Floor, and the first floor above the
ground floor would be called the Second Floor.
  • But the blocking of the elevator is a plot hole as we shall
    see later.

Second Floor Storage Room

Note

  • All of the items on the bulletin board
  • The fancy box on the third shelf. This is a puzzle which hides
    a Rune Stone.

Plot Holes

  • Why does an office/apartment building need spare tires? And
why keep them in a second floor storage room?
  • You have rented an apartment on the second floor. And the only
way to get to it is to take an elevator which dumps you off in
    a storage room?
  • The batteries in that puzzle box are good for how long?

Second Floor Hallway

Note

  • The metal wall at the end of the right-hand fork. Seems a bit
    out of place.
  • The combination lock to get into Security at the end of the
    left-hand fork

Plot Holes

  • There are two elevators in the building. Where is the entrance
    to the second?
  • Where are the emergency stairs?
  • What is a perambulator (baby carriage) doing up here?
