The player controls both Wallace and Gromit, but cannot switch between them freely. The story determines which character is controllable at any given time.

It is a classic point-and-click adventure with controls adapted for both PC and consoles. Item interaction still uses a context-sensitive cursor, but the characters are moved directly instead of by move-to orders.

The player explores locations, talks to people, and collects items to solve riddles and advance the story.
