The story takes place in Silentia, a dream fantasy world, where a young circus clown named Sadwick wakes from a recurring nightmare in which he sees the world falling apart.

In a nearby forest, he meets Bobby, a Chaski messenger of the King, who is carrying the Whispering Stone to Corona. Bobby says the land is breaking apart and that the Asgil are surrounding the royal castle, then asks Sadwick to help him find the oracle Shana.

Sadwick convinces Bobby to let him take the Whispering Stone and later finds Shana, who tells him that his destiny is to destroy the world. She sends him to find Kalida, leading him toward Corona, where he learns more about the Asgil and is captured before escaping.

He eventually reaches the castle by flying steam locomotive and meets Bobby again. Inside, he finds a model of a planetary system linked to space and time, and learns that the king must repair it to restore balance and activate the fountain of the Water of Life.
