Roger Wilco’s escape pod from the end of Space Quest II is picked up by an automated garbage freighter. After finding a derelict spaceship among the garbage, he sets out to repair the Aluminum Mallard and leave the ship.

He visits locations including Monolith Burger and the desert planet Phleebhut. There, Arnoid the Annihilator hunts him for not paying for a whistle in Space Quest II, and Roger later learns about the activities of ScumSoft, run by the Pirates of Pestulon.

Pestulon is a small moon of the volcanic planet Ortega, covered in soft, moss-like vegetation and twisted tree-like growths. Elmo Pug, the CEO of ScumSoft, has abducted the Two Guys from Andromeda and is forcing them to design awful games.

Roger sneaks into the ScumSoft building, rescues the two programmers, and is discovered. He then battles Pug in a game combining giant Mecha-style combat with Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, and after winning, escapes with the Two Guys.
