JA’S BEST INDEPENDENTLY DEVELOPED ADVENTURE GAME OF 2003

A QUIET WEEKEND IN CAPRI Developer: Silvio & Gey Savarese
Publisher: GotGame Entertainment
Release Date: May 2003

Independently developed games are not held to the same intense scrutiny as the big budget releases, but even if they were Weekend at Capri could still hold its own.

Developed by Silvio & Gey Savarese – a father and son team – Capri uses over 4,500 still photographs to create the illusion of movement. It is a slow-paced game that invites careful exploration and eventually the lush sound effects and photo-realism conspire to convince you that you are actually visiting Italy’s Capri.

Alex Tait’s JA review sums it up quite nicely:

A Quiet Weekend in Capri screenshot - click to enlargeThis game is great in almost every way. It enthuses me that such quality adventures are being marketed despite the so-called absence of a market. Perhaps the independent adventure creator is the way of our future? We can only hope with quality titles we see at the moment. This game deserves an award of excellence.

Such excellence demands platitudes and A Quiet Weekend in Capri has now received a few. It was the first game to be accepted as part of Just Adventure’s Independent Developer site and it has since found a North American publisher – GotGame Entertainment – and will soon be available in retail stores.
