Step into the shoes of Ruth, a young lady who lives alone on a farm in Norway at the end of a faraway fjord in 1929. Here, she tends cows and creates tasty dairy concoctions to sell. It’s not an easy life, however, and business could be better. Ruth starts to wonder if this is really the life she wants.

Then one day, everything changes. A huge spaceship arrives, and Ruth embarks on the journey of a lifetime.

Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a game of exploration, puzzle-solving, cow-milking, cheese-making and breaking free from the past. Its story concerns age, life, death and time, and finding one’s place in the universe. Heady stuff, eh?

The game is unique in that the narrative is written completely in rhyme. For instance:

Deep in a fjord, a girl and her bovine,
Western Norway, nineteen-twenty-nine.

This is a story from Calf Ledge,
a farm perched on a mountain edge.

Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a labor of love featuring hand-painted backgrounds and old-school pixel art. Mattis Folkestad is the game’s developer, writer, composer and artist. Or, as he puts it: Made with passion by one guy from Norway.

The game is now available for Windows and Mac on Steam and on iOS.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
