The Enigmatically Titled 1000 Heads Among The Trees is Released
Aaron Oldenburg and Kiss Ltd invite you to explore a 3D world in search of spirits
1000 Heads Among The Trees is an impressionistic game that began with on-site documentary research on a small town in Peru called Cachiche, founded by witches during the Peruvian Inquisition. Descendants of witches still live there and continue to practice traditional healing and fortune-telling.
Developer Aaron Oldenburg traveled to Cachiche and spent time with a brujo (sorcerer). 1000 Heads is based on stories related by the brujo as well as the local inhabitants.
The main game mechanic includes photographing characters, environmental objects and events in the town and showing them to characters who provide both literal and stream-of-consciousness interpretations.
This creates a generative narrative for the player allowing cognitive build-up of an exquisite-corpse1 style story about the town, with multiple truths exposed by different characters.
1000 Heads Among The Trees is now available for PC/Windows on Steam.
