At this weekend’s PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas Tim Schafer, the head of Double Fine, provided a slew of announcements including an update on Grim Fandango Remastered and big news that Day of the Tentacle is also getting a makeover..

First they unveiled a new teaser trailer for the 1998 LucasArts classic, Grim Fandango Remastered. The game will be launching next year on January 27th on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PC, Mac, and Linux. They went on to talk about the game’s hi res visuals, the live orchestral soundtrack, new control schemes, and director’s commentary. The resurrection of Grim Fandango was first revealed during this year’s E3 which included a Video Clip and Tim Schafer’s Retrospective. It was first thought that the re-make would be a PS4 and PS Vita exclusive, but the inclusion of a PC version was quickly announced following an outcry from concerned fans.

Grim Fandango Remastered Trailer

“One of the most acclaimed adventure games of all time is now back, better than ever. Grim Fandango’s epic story of four years in the life (or death) of Manny Calavera, travel agent to the dead, has been remastered to look, sound, and control even better than when it won GameSpot’s Game of the Year award upon it’s original launch. Grim Fandango still stands as a classic of the genre, with unforgettable characters and unique combination of film noir and Mexican folklore.”

Some more exciting news from Double Fine

Following last week’s update on Act 2 for Broken Age, Double Fine announced that the game will also be coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The complete adventure will hit early next year day and date with the Act 2 PC release.

They also announced that they’re bringing back another LucasArts classic, Maniac Mansion II: Day of the Tentacle, with more information to come.
