Developers Everplay and CookieBit see Unsettled as both a game and a social experiment. In multiplayer mode, players will be given incentives to work together. The game will also offer single-player mode.
Kris Jones, the designer behind Unsettled: We are very excited to see how the players interact with each other using all of the toys and features we give them. Players have a lot of freedom over their choices and actions. Many games with this system, such as DayZ and Rust, generally result in kill on sight situations and a lot of bandits. But if you watch YouTube or Twitch, you’ll see it is the creative choices like playing a funny role or creating humorous situations that become fan favorites and popular to viewers. Our plan is to put a focus on these.
Players can be craftsmen, farmers, hunters, treasure seekers, and even bandits if they desire. The game will offer plenty of NPC enemies to contend with and friendly ones to encounter.
Unsettled will be released in Spring 2015 for PC; later for consoles. A Kickstarter campaign with a base goal of $30,000 will run until December 24, 2014.
