Second Kickstarter campaign has just launched and Jeff takes a look at the demo. The game has all the looks of turning into a beautiful adventure if funded this time around.

The Story

Eccentric inventor Dr. Edwin Lupin has invented one of science’s holy grails – a time machine. Unfortunately for him, the machine looks just like a shower. Rather than focus on Lupin’s incredible achievement the scientific community scoffs at his invention, unable to see beyond the time machine’s humble appearance. Insulted and incensed, Lupin decides to go back in time to give himself credit for many of the world’s most famous works. You play Kelvin, who is our hero and Dr Lupin’s lab assistant. Kelvin is intent on stopping his boss’s dastardly plans.

A Second Go at Kickstarter

Blyts, the company behind the game, has just launched its second Kickstarter to fund development. Following their first failed attempt, the developers are revamping the game to make it less “young” and give it more of an edge. They’ve also included a game demo this time around. The demo sends you to 19th century Vienna where you must stop Dr. Lupin from taking credit for Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

The Demo

While the demo doesn’t comprise a complete chapter, it does provide just enough to give a taste of how the finished product will look. It shows the start of a light-hearted adventure in the vein of Monkey Island or Broken Age. The focus is on character interaction and inventory puzzles, both staples of our genre, and if you’re an adventure game fan you’ll feel right at home in the shoes of Kelvin.

The only voice acting in the demo is during the intro but I was impressed by its quality. The animation is whimsical, but notably without the hint of PG-13 humor. Blyts’ original Kickstarter was apparently criticized for being too “immature.” The revamped demo addresses this and even includes a joke about the game being 18+.

The game has all the looks of turning into a beautiful adventure if funded this time around. You can read more about the game and access the demo on its Kickstarter page here. Though short, I definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested.
