Go on an epic journey through Viking purgatory in this action-exploration RPG for PC and Mac from indie developer Thunder Lotus Games; a Kickstarter campaign is in progress

In this tribute to Viking mythology, you are Thora, a Norse warrior who has died an inglorious death. In order enter Valhalla, she must endure the challenges of Viking purgatory.

Jotun‘s gameplay is a love letter to classic games such as The Legend of Zelda. It has simple controls, action-packed boss fights and a mythic Viking world to discover.

Jotun is not a “hack-and-slash” RPG. There are no experience points and few stats. Every item is important and every fight is necessary. The combat in Jotun is fast-paced and brutally hard. Using only your massive two-handed axe, you’ll take on foes that are hundreds of times your size.

Features:

  • Beautiful 2D hand-drawn art style
  • Epic boss fights against the mighty jotun
  • A vast and mysterious randomly-generated world to explore filled with environmental puzzles based on Viking culture and mythology
  • An overarching story to discover for both Thora and Purgatory itself
  • Shrines to the Viking Gods
  • An amazing musical score, specifically composed for every gameplay moment

A Kickstarter campaign for the game will run until August 20, 2014. The developer, as well as Odin, would appreciate your support.

Jotun is targeted for release in September 2015 on PC and Mac.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
