Update: After I posted the information below, I received some news that might help further clarify things…
New Game in the ‘Crown’ Horror Adventure Franchise Comes Out of the Shadows with Video & Screens – May 8, 2014

Okay, let me see if I have this straight.

Once upon a time, there was a horror adventure game called The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle. It was in development by Darkling Room.

I can’t really remember when I first heard about it. It was a long time ago. Years, maybe.

At some point, I think it was to have been launched in time for Halloween 2013. It wasn’t.

Instead, a game called The Halloween Haunting was to be released. A portion of the proceeds would be contributed to the funding of The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle which, it was deemed at the time, needed more development and promotion.

On October 8, 2013, I posted an upcoming release page and news item about The Halloween Haunting.

At that time, the game was to be released “shortly.” But Halloween came and went, and The Halloween Haunting was nowhere to be seen.

In December 2013, it was announced that The Halloween Haunting had been renamed Blackenrock. On December 6th, I posted another upcoming release page and news item reflecting the new name and some new info. Blackenrock was also to be released “shortly.”

Okay. This morning, May 8, 2014, I discovered that a gameplay video (posted below) had been released. Further, it appears that Blackenrock is now known as The Last Crown: Blackenrock. Or maybe not…

The text supporting the gameplay video refers to the game as The Last Crown: Blackenrock. The video itself, however, reads: “Before the Last Crown is discovered… Blackenrock,” as in the banner image at the top of this page.

Unfortunately, what still isn’t known is this game’s release date. As far as I can tell, though, it will still be for Windows.

So…let’s recap. The Halloween Haunting, to have been released for Halloween 2013, turned into Blackenrock which, as of last December, was to be released “shortly,” with its title having been subesquently changed to The Last Crown: Blackenrock. Maybe. Well, whatever it’s called, it still hasn’t been released.

And what about The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, you ask? Your guess is as good as mine…

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
